Welcome to Education + Healthcare for Etetak, an association committed to the future of the children of Cameroon. Our mission is to provide comprehensive education and quality healthcare to the residents of the Etetak neighborhood, contributing to the integral and sustainable development of the community.

Through our program, we offer accredited schooling to ensure that children at risk of social exclusion have access to quality education that helps them build a promising future. In addition, we provide free medical assistance to guarantee the health and well-being of these children.

Beyond education and healthcare, we also care about the environment and hygiene of the neighborhood. That is why we carry out neighborhood cleaning initiatives and promote healthy hygiene practices to improve the residents’ quality of life.

We also support young people in learning a trade, providing them with the skills and resources necessary to achieve professional success and contribute to the economic development of the neighborhood.

Through our work, we aim to create an environment where the children of Etetak feel loved, safe, and empowered to achieve their dreams, thus preventing migration to other places. A Commitment to the Future

It is important to highlight that in Cameroon, both education and healthcare are paid services. Our mission is clear: to ensure that all children have access to quality education and that illiterate adults have the opportunity to learn to read and write. We firmly believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and building a better future for everyone.

Our Programs

Schooling for Children at Risk. Many boys and girls in Etetak live in vulnerable situations that make it difficult for them to access education. Our association provides academic support to ensure that these children do not fall behind. This support includes early education, primary education, and secondary education so they can obtain the official national qualification.

• School Supplies: We provide books, uniforms, and other essential materials for their academic development.
• Psychological Support: We offer emotional and psychological assistance to help children overcome difficulties that may affect their learning.

Adult Literacy: In many cases, adults in the neighborhood have not had the opportunity to learn to read and write. For this reason, we offer literacy classes twice a week, aiming to provide them with the necessary tools to improve their quality of life and contribute to the development of the community.

Free Healthcare

We understand that good health is essential for learning and development. For this reason, we have established free healthcare services for the children enrolled in our programs. With the help of the medicines we provide, we have created a pharmacy in the neighborhood.

The Community Pharmacy

Our pharmacy, selflessly supervised by Dr. Meli, offers essential medicines and medical care to the entire community. The services include:

• Medicine Supply: We provide essential medicines free of charge to children and families in need, since in Africa these must be paid for.
• Medical Consultations: Dr. Meli offers regular medical check-ups, ensuring that children receive the care they need to stay healthy.
• Health Education: We organize workshops and talks to educate the community about health and hygiene practices.

Training for a Better Future

We offer practical training in various trades for the young people of our neighborhood. This program is designed to provide professional skills that improve job opportunities and contribute to the development of the community.

Current Trades

Our current program includes training in the following trades:

• Mechanics: 3 students
• Decoration and Painting: 1 student
• Carpentry: 2 students
• Aluminum Construction: 3 students
• Bodywork and Panel Beating: 1 student

These courses offer a combination of theoretical and practical learning, taught by experienced professionals who guide students in developing their skills.

Our vocational training program is essential for the youth of Etetak, as it provides them with the tools they need to find qualified and stable employment.

Despite the success of our program, we have a waiting list of students who want to learn new trades. With your help, we can expand our program and include more training options, offering more opportunities to more young people.

Revival of Youth Football Training in Etetak

We are pleased to announce the revival of youth football training for the children of the Etetak neighborhood. This exciting program offers a unique opportunity for young people to develop sports skills, grow in values, and enjoy a healthy and fun activity.

Our Youth Football Program

Our goal is to provide the children of Etetak with a safe and stimulating space where they can practice football, develop their skills, and learn important values such as teamwork, discipline, and respect. We believe that sports are a powerful tool for personal and community development.

Participants

Currently, the program hosts 60 boys and girls aged between 6 and 15. These young athletes benefit from regular training sessions, friendly matches, and recreational activities that foster their growth both in sports and in their personal development.

Training sessions are held several times a week on local fields that have been restored and adapted for football practice.

The benefits of this program go beyond the football field. The children who participate in the youth football program experience:

• Improved Physical Health: Regular physical activity helps them stay fit and healthy.
• Social Development: Football encourages social relationships and teamwork.
• Personal Growth: Children gain confidence and discipline through sports.
• Inclusion and Equality: We promote gender equality and social inclusion through mixed participation in activities.

Etetak: A Hidden Treasure in the Heart of Cameroon

ETETAK is a small, charming neighborhood located on the northern outskirts of Yaoundé. This neighborhood stands out for its cosmopolitan and diverse population, with residents from various regions of Cameroon, representing a rich blend of races, ethnic groups, and religions coexisting in harmony.

The name ETETAK means “small water point,” reflecting the neighborhood’s history as a refuge for migrants from all over Cameroon, especially from humble areas. Despite its modest infrastructure and the low purchasing power of its residents, ETETAK is an example of a resilient community.

The quality of life in ETETAK faces several challenges. Seventy-five percent of the homes are built with precarious materials, and access to drinking water is a constant concern. The Cameroonian water company does not fully cover the neighborhood, making it difficult and costly for residents to connect to the network.

With an estimated population of nearly 1,500 people, most residents rely on mountain water from the nearby forest. Every day, from early morning until late at night, women, children, and men venture into the forest to collect water for their families. This task is arduous and often requires waiting for hours due to the high demand at the water point.

The location of the water point is not sanitary. The tools used to channel and collect the water are made from improvised materials, which compromises the quality of the supply.

ETETAK urgently needs improvements in infrastructure and access to basic services such as drinking water. The community continues to fight for a better life, and any support to help improve living conditions for its residents is greatly appreciated.

Essential Improvements for the Etetak Community

At the Education and Healthcare for Etetak Association, we are always working to improve the quality of life of the residents in our neighborhood. With this mission in mind, we are excited to present our Project for 2025: the construction of a clean water well. This project is crucial for the health and well-being of our community.

2025 Project Goals: Water Well

Currently, the Etetak neighborhood does not receive drinking water from Yaoundé, forcing residents to search for alternative water sources that are often unsafe. This situation contributes to serious health issues such as infections, amoebas, cholera, and other waterborne diseases.

Importance of the Water Well

The construction of a clean water well in Etetak is an urgent necessity for several reasons:

• Reduction of Diseases: Access to drinking water will help reduce the incidence of illnesses such as intestinal infections, amoebas, and cholera, which spread through contaminated water.
• Improved Public Health: With access to clean water, the overall health of the population will improve significantly, increasing life expectancy and reducing medical expenses.
• Stability and Well-Being: Reliable access to drinking water will provide greater stability and well-being for all Etetak families.

This project will not only improve the health of residents but will also have a positive impact on many other aspects of community life:

• Education: Children will be able to attend school more regularly and concentrate better without worrying about waterborne diseases.
• Economy: Families will save money on medical costs and time spent searching for safe water.
• Quality of Life: Overall, access to clean water will increase the quality of life in Etetak, making it a healthier and more resilient community.
